UniProtKB description: Degrades hyaluronic acid (HA) into large-sized HA oligosaccharides, including tetrasaccharide HA (HA-4), hexasaccharide HA (HA-6) and higher molecular weight HA, and to a lesser extent into HA disaccharides (HA-2). Involved in the pathogenesis of acne. HA degradation products induce secretion of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha) from human HaCaT keratinocyte cell line and from mouse bone marrow derived macrophages (BMDMs). Produced HA fragments also direct robust TLR2-dependent inflammation in the mouse model of acne.
