Inclusion of Large Structures in the PDB Archive

12/09

With this week's update, large structures (containing >62 chains and/or 99999 ATOM lines) represented as single files have been fully integrated into the main PDB FTP archive in both PDBx/mmCIF and PDBML formats. Previously, large structures were represented in multiple 'SPLIT' entries, which have now been removed (obsoleted) from the PDB FTP site.

The RCSB PDB website has been updated to support these large combined files. Currently, large structures and the corresponding 'SPLIT' entries are searchable at rcsb.org by PDB ID. The associated 'SPLIT' entries will be removed from the website over the coming weeks, but will be available thereafter as obsoleted entries.
